This week I became aware of a new lock cylinder.
The lock cylinder of the company iLOQ.
This system is the first and the only electronic lock cylinder in the world that self-powers by harvesting electricity from key insertion.

Some advantages of this system:
- There are significantly lower maintenance costs, as in battery operated mechatronic locking systems.
- The system must not be wired
- The locking system is managed via the Internet
